Mikko Sinko - Chairman, Compre Holdings
Mikko – he is a Finnish national - started his insurance career in 1968 in Helsinki. He worked there with two major Finnish companies until 1984. His roles involved cargo and reinsurance underwriting and buying reinsurance protections. His career in Finland progressed to management board level.
Mikko was seconded to London in 1984 to head Finnish-owned reinsurance company, FIGRE. This was meant to be a short fixed term assignment. Plans changed and resulted in formation of independent, manager-owned Compre Group through MBO under Mikko’s leadership. Compre Holdings was set up in 1991. Mikko relocated back to Finland in 2007. His short spell in London turned out 23 years.
Apart from Compre Holdings, Mikko is chairman of all other major companies within the Group. He has been actively involved in growing Compre’s business through successful acquisition of seven (re)insurance companies and several portfolios in run-off as well as service operations.
Mikko’s education and qualifications include: BSc (Econ), approved insurance company controller by regulatory authorities in the UK, Finland and Sweden; Individual Registration at Lloyd’s and member of the ARIAS (UK) Panel of Arbitrators. Mikko has a wide international contact network and understanding of different cultures and business practises, gained through his long career, working in the London market, extensive travel and language skills. Perhaps due to these qualities Mikko’s services have been used in problem solving and dispute resolution as negotiator, mediator and arbitrator.
Mikko is married with two sons and has two grandchildren. He is keen golfer, likes watching sport, is interested in history and current affairs and enjoys his country place in Finland.
